Non-Invasive Paediatric & Neonatal Ventilation Course in Acute Settings

A 2-day face-to-face course in non-invasive ventilation in acute settings for paediatric and neonatal patients outside the neonatal unit. Combines rigorous theoretical presentations with hands-on simulation stations.

  • Introduction to NIV - indications, contraindications and clinical decision-making
  • The ICEMAN acronym framework for NIV management
  • Initiating NIV - practical setup and interface selection
  • HFNC vs CPAP - evidence and clinical application
  • NIV with conventional ventilators
  • NIV with home ventilators
  • Recognising and managing asynchronies in NIV
  • Hands-on simulation stations with clinical scenarios

ESPNIC Paediatric & Neonatal Mechanical Ventilation

A comprehensive 2-day face-to-face course centred on mechanical ventilation for children and adolescents.

Educational material is grounded in the Handbook of Paediatric and Neonatal Mechanical Ventilation (Medina Villanueva, ESPNIC), PALICC and PEMVECC recommendations.

  • Review the fundamental principles of respiratory physiology
  • Understand the principles and goals of mechanical ventilation
  • Become confident with conventional ventilation modes
  • Improve interpretation of ventilator waveforms
  • Troubleshoot patient-ventilator issues including asynchrony

A focused 1-day introductory course designed specifically for PICU nurses and Allied Health Professionals. Delivered alongside the ESPNIC 2-day MV course or separately, this programme equips nursing staff with the foundational knowledge and practical skills needed to manage ventilated patients safely on the unit.
